Ing. arch. Pavel Kostka and Ing. arch. Jana Kašparová combined their passion for architecture into a unique team. Together they form Atelier ČTYŘI STĚNY, where they offer comprehensive services in the field of architecture.

Their specialization lies mainly in the design of interiors and residential buildings. They like to focus on the overall design of the space, from the material scheme and functional connections to the smallest detail. Their goal is to find a solution without compromise that fully meets the needs and ideas of their clients.

Since every space and every client is unique, they believe that the best ideas and inspiration come spontaneously. Most of the time, this happens the first time they meet a client or see a particular space. At the same time, they pride themselves on the fact that every project they work on is a challenge and an opportunity to create something unique.

Mutual trust and openness to new impulses are key for them. They say that they don’t primarily try to push their own opinion on interior design, rather they listen and gradually guide the client to a refined solution. As a result, their favourite projects are those that manage to be completed in as much detail as possible. Such projects, however, are created mainly thanks to clients who are willing to truly enjoy the collaboration.

Pavel and Jana’s motto in life is “the devil is in the detail”. In other words, although a project may seem simple, it is the little things and inattention to them that can complicate the whole project.

Ing. Arch. Tereza Červená and Ing. Ing. arch. Jakub Svitek are the founders of the Czech-Slovak architectural studio ČERVENÁSVITEK.

The friendship of the two founders has been inseparably transformed into an architectural creation, thanks to which they design in many cities and regions of their native countries. The pair were united by their love of space, technology and the materialization of ideas.

Architect Tereza Červená says she likes the combination of the artistic side with technology and rational thinking. The proposed project should evoke an emotion, but at the same time work, the interior must be well thought out, so that it is easy to live in and nothing is impractical or ill-conceived.

The orders of the ČERVENÁSVITEK studio consist mainly of complete designs or reconstructions from cabins in the woods, through interiors in the centre of Prague and Bratislava, to family and apartment houses. As they say themselves, it is not the space or the type of order that is important to them, but the client they work with.

The ideal client is a person with an open mind

At the first non-binding consultation, the architects find out the client’s ideas and wishes and try to get a feel for them. At the same time, the client also finds out if they will be comfortable working with them and if they understand each other. According to Tereza Červena, it is essential that clients choose an architect for the project with whom they understand and trust each other.

When a client comes in with an idea, it is important to take a broad look at the project and point out any pitfalls that may arise. At the same time, it’s important to be able to imagine that the space people are used to being in could look very different. Architects often come up with an unusual idea that the client hadn’t thought of before, but then they are blown away and live much better than before.

The whole collaboration is quite intense, and in a series of consultations the architects show different solutions in order to arrive at an interior design that is a pleasure to live in and that the client is excited about. Only when the client is delighted with the design do they move on to the implementation documents and start building. At the same time, the architects keep an eye on the project until the very end.

People rarely imagine how demanding the process is, how many things have to be thought of at the same time, what has to be supervised, organized and planned, from the layout itself, to the choice of materials and colours, to the furnishings and every detail during the construction.

Veronika Jilčíková is the leader of a team of five architects and interior designers from Brno. They collaborate on various types of orders from reconstructions of all interiors, through designs of new buildings of family and apartment buildings, projects of industrial halls to buildings of civic amenities.

As she says, they are not a classic studio nor do they have a website, because clients find them themselves on the basis of recommendations or viewed realizations. The ideal client for them is one who comes with confidence and takes advice.

It is then up to the architect to draw attention to possible difficulties and unpredictability, because clients often have distorted ideas about implementation dates. For example, the transformation of an interior, if construction interventions are part of it, is not a small thing and usually takes a matter of months.

Choose the Architect with Your Heart

Veronika says the most important thing about cooperation with clients is the first meeting and a mutual attunement to the assignment to understand it correctly. She then elaborates several ideas, introduces them to the client, fine-tunes them and finalizes them to the final graphic state. After approval by the client, the realization firms are asked for, the designs are read and after selection of the contractor, construction can be started.

Veronika enjoys the most variety of her work, because no contract is the same. She also applies psychology, because during the realization she needs to perfectly perceive what the client needs and also what the right design is for the given place and space.

She says herself that she is lucky with clients who come to her with confidence, and she tries to repay them with maximum attention, or put a piece of herself into the project. Because every client is different, the creation is different for everyone. Although Veronika has her own certain professional handwriting, she does not stick to one type of scheme. It is the diversity that is charming about the work of an architect. The main goal is a satisfied and enthusiastic client who returns and recommends Veronika further.

Martina Krtičková, is an architect who specializes in interior design and generally in creating aesthetically and functionally perfect spaces.

Her biggest inspiration is people. Her work is not limited to the visual perception of space, but also focuses on how people feel in a given space. She likes to be inspired by their feelings and thoughts. By tuning into the client’s wave, she is able to understand them as best as possible. This understanding of the clients and their needs is a key factor in creating a design that is not only visually striking, but also fully functional.

Most important of all, Martina is happy. The joy of creating, the joy of working with clients and the joy of the end result. She doesn’t have a favourite project, in her words there is no project that is unpopular. Each one brings new challenges and opportunities.

Radka and Jakub Val are two architects and parents of a little Viking, Erik, who love wildlife and offroad at the same time. Iceland is their heartland, but they also like to travel around cities, especially in the north, where they live in designer apartments and where, in the end, they say, they only go to pubs and architecture anyway. They love industrial and militant buildings, so in Vienna, Berlin or Hamburg they like to go on expeditions to bunkers and submarines or wander the docks between container ships. For Radka and Jakub, housing is the basis. They live in a beautiful black barn in the mountains, where the first anarchist print shop was once located, overlooking the valley. As they say themselves, they love renovation and living so much that they didn’t even tear down this ruin, but squeezed the most out of its potential. With renovations, their own experience speaks for them. This home is a place where they draw energy, find peace and feel great. They don’t leave the industrial environment at work either, their studio can be found in the multifunctional space of the HAM Factory, where the first Prague ham factory used to be located.

Interior designer Ivanka Kowalski has been interested in design all her life. After graduating in mathematics, she decided to do what she enjoyed, studied design and has now been doing it for over 20 years. Her studio is based in Prague, where she also carries out most of her commissions, but she designs projects all over the Czech Republic.

She focuses on more luxurious residential interiors, private villas and apartments, and additionally designs commercial interiors. Her ideal client is one who knows what they don’t want, has an idea of what they would like, but can give her some creative freedom.

Ivanka says it’s important that she and her client have a style fit. She keeps a similar handwriting across executions and most people who approach her have seen her work, so they know what style to expect.

Ivanka says it’s important to remember that renovations are time and money consuming and usually take longer and cost more than clients initially think. At the beginning of the collaboration it is essential to think everything through thoroughly, to come up with an overall interior concept, either on your own, with an architect or a designer, and then only start buying furniture.

Ivanka proceeds by finding out as much information as possible from the client, what their intentions are and what they expect. Then she tunes the layout, materials and colours, how the overall atmosphere of the interior should look like. In the last stage, she makes a detailed design and then follows the actual implementation until the final form of the new home.

Dominika is the interior designer behind the designs of DD Design, a company dedicated to interior design and decor services for private apartments and houses.

Her passion for interior design led her to work in property development and real estate. Absolut Design, with which DD Design works closely and where Dominika has worked for several years, is one of the top companies in its field. It was the property development world that gave her the opportunity to combine her design experience with the whole process of building and then selling. Her work includes not only interior design, but also coordination and supervision of the project.

As she says, she is inspired by everything she encounters in her everyday life. Whether it’s a beautifully decorated hotel, the atmosphere of a restaurant, projects by international designers or inspiring social media posts.

What Dominica enjoys most about her work is being a part of amazing projects from start to finish. What she enjoys most is seeing a job well done and that gives her a sense of purpose.

Dominika believes that it’s the little things that make interiors special. Every detail makes the whole, even in the luxury sector. It should not only be visually impressive, but also comfortable and functional. If luxury is not comfortable, it is not luxury.

Patrik Rešl and Michal Kamas are not only colleagues, but also long-time friends who share a desire to create spectacular and unusual solutions based on innovation and sustainability. This passion has brought them together to create unique interiors and products.
